It really can span a large area of the world of art.
Recently, I have started working on my own pieces and trying to expand my knowledge, understanding and talent. I usually just did the beading itself and tacked it to the wall. Now I have begun to make necklaces, painting and key chains.

Here are some of the necklaces/keychains I have made.

All of these were made with mini beads. Mini beads are 1/4 the size of regular beads. When I use the normal beads, I do so with my hands. However mini beads require me to use a needle or a tack because the same of them is just too small.
One thing I did learn is that where ever you are going to put the hoops, you need to take out the beads. I didn't do that with the one from the last picture. It was a royal pain to get the hoops to go in. After some practice, my ironing with mini beads has gotten better. I have to turn down the heat quite a bit and do something called flat ironing, which has no holes throughout the piece.
This is something I plan to work on more in the future.(reference to ideas will be at the end of the post)

These are the three pieces I have done. I am not a skilled painter in the least. I do have to say, I am quite pleased with how they all turned out. The Big Apple one bugs me a bit just because the writing isn't straight. However, it was my first time painting so I will take it as a learning curve.

Now, here is where I am going to give some shoutouts to other people on their mixed media style.
It really amazes me on what people can do.

These are from EEK Creations. She is one of the most talented people in mixed media with bead art(as well as other art). Please check out her facebook page and be in AWE of her just like I am.
This was made by a friend of mine Jake. It is one of the coolest effects I have seen with beads. It's 3 layers of flat ironed beads, glued together and placed on canvas. We call it the Rumble Effect(an inside joke of sorts). It makes me wish I could find something cool to layer like that.

Ok, this one isn't a mixed media but it needs to be seen by a lot of people.
This is ALL beads! It's massive and awesome. This was done by a guy who goes by the alias "ShampooTeacher". He says it took him about 130 hours to bead and iron.
If your jaw doesn't drop at this, I would be shocked.
Be sure to check out his website: www.shampooteacher.com

Well folks, that is all she wrote.
Until next time
Glad to be back.
It's been a crazy year so far for me. Work has been keeping me busy along with regular life stuff.Had my braces taken off in January was very exciting for me. Being on vacation for 2 weeks and having a friend visiting kept me even more busy.
So beading has almost taken a back seat to everything else in my life.
So today, it's going to be a quick photo dump with all the projects I have done and then something at the end so please read on :D.
Now, in my pervious post, I mentioned mini beads. This week Michelle announced that she is selling mini beads.
Next post, showing off my Christmas commissions and projects.Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13668283740463763997noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5552596736019017938.post-86969972466766117552011-10-25T17:52:00.000-03:002011-10-25T17:52:43.784-03:00Happy HalloweenHalloween is fast approaching and I am really surprised that time has gone by so fast. It feels like just the other week it was my birthday.
I have been beading quite a bit lately and I have a lot to share with you all.

About a month or so ago, I managed to get a hold of something called Hama mini beads. Now the normal beads can see very small to some people but they are nothing in compared to mini beads.

Now you see the difference. The one on the right is the regular one and the one on the left is the mini bead. It's insane how tiny they are. I use a tack just to bead with them.

These are two Mario mushrooms so you can really see the size difference when it comes to sprites.

I look forward to more work with mini beads. They are so much easier to make necklaces with.

So the other week, I was testing out a blacklight bulb for some stuff for work. I turn around to see my wall by my bed glowing.

I LOVE my bedroom wall now. I have yet to take the blacklight out of my bedside lamp. Glow in the dark beads are great under a blacklight.

Now I have posted before about pieces done by Gallio from PixelGasm. Well he has yet again managed to outdo himself. He made these really cool ghosts that in day light look one way and at night glow a different ghost. He was nice enough to share the patterns with me so I could make them.

I made this portrait of Jason Bateman in anticipation of the Arrested Development Movie. I am a HUGE fan of Jason Bateman and will watch anything he is in. So this seemed appropriate to make.

Well I have some commissions to work on for Christmas. So those will be posted once they are done. Happy Halloween Everyone.

On good old Pixelgasm, some members have started a RPG comic. A bunch of us are characters and I tell you now, it's pretty awesome.
The characters are cute and somehow I have already ended up with a cute quirk. I talk about singing to heal. It makes me giggle.
Now there are two wonderful guys at the front of making this and they both deserve a huge credit. With writing, designing characters and just being awesome. Thank you so much Richard and Jake. Love this comic and you guys to death.

I am adding a tab at the top for the whole comic so far so it's easier to view and come back to whenever there is an update(will be posted on the FB page so like the page)

Now onto the beading part of this. I have done every character that is currently in the comic and plan on doing a cool poster or two for the apartment.
These people are some of the coolest cats I know and however dorky our own comic may be, we all love it. So be sure to read it and comment on it.Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13668283740463763997noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5552596736019017938.post-2607008196471437732011-08-23T19:13:00.000-03:002011-08-23T19:13:18.689-03:00Summer Breeze...Well this month has been crazy to say the least, vacation, my birthday and a whole bunch of weekend activities. But I promise you, I am coming back with 3 posts. So hurray for that. This post is mostly just an update on some of the pieces I have worked on over the last little while.

This piece was from the sprites at Iotacons.
He does these weird 8-bit characters and I just love them. These were a birthday present for my friend. Beatles are her favourite band.

Fred Astaire has got to be my favourite old time actor. The way he danced and moved, I just love him. I will watch anything he is in. So of course my wall had to have him.

Back in February, I posted an image of a Link. It was done by Gallio from Pixelgasm and I just loved it. I finally got around to doing it and even though I changed the colours from green to a light red, I think it turned out really cute. I changed it to this light red because I had so many of these colours(blush and coral red). I love the look of them but I never manage to find something to use them for.

One of my favourite pieces that has floated around this great community is by Redherring. He did this cool 9 piece Megaman piece. So what had popped into my brain was a Kirby one. Because who doesn't love that pink fluff ball. Mine is the 7 levels of Kirby's Adventure for NES. Each piece is 50x50 and took me about an hour to two per one to make.

One of my favourite movies is Nightmare Before Christmas. We owned about 10 VHS as a kid and this was one of them. I watch it every Halloween and Christmas. Because it gives me a chance to watch it at least twice in a 2 month period. Now one of the first larger projects I ever done was an Oogie Boogie and it is still one of the best pieces I've ever done. Something so cool about it.Well I got it into my head that I needed to make another one but this time he should glow in the dark because he does in the movie.

Now these next three pieces are almost an inside joke of sorts but it's too cute and funny not to share. A while back, Redherring made the most delicious looking cakes I have ever seen. I wanted to eat them instantly.

See.... so cute and yummy. Well I made a comment about it and of course through the course of everyone, it became a big thing about if it's wrong to murder cakes or maybe we shouldn't eat anything with a face. My brain went into overdrive and this is what I came up with

See... now the cakes are being murdered. I love them and their cute little freaked out eyes.

Finally some quick Pokemon

I love working with the periwinkle and blueberry creme colours. They don't get used much, like the blush and hot coral. So when I get to use them, I get excited.

A huge update I must say, and two more posts coming this week. The interview with Rob Hawks that I promised and a RPG comic involving the members of Pixelgasm.Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13668283740463763997noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5552596736019017938.post-20332885713057545512011-08-05T20:12:00.000-03:002011-08-05T20:12:36.809-03:00365 days of BeadingSo over the past year, there has been this guy named Rob Hawks that beads something once a day, Today was day 365. I have to say this, I cried a little bit. It doesn't seem like a year since he started and I am so proud to see him stick to it.
There were times he was getting low on colours and having to be real creative. He really inspired me. The dedication he had to this project was amazing.

So this post is dedicated to an awesome guy, Rob Hawks.
Love you and proud of you buddy!
Knowing you, you'll bead tomorrow and the day after lol.

Also, he made a video to show everything he did over the past year. So I want you all to check it out and see just how much he put into the projects. Yes, he did iron every single project he made.

I will be doing an interview with him very shortly.Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13668283740463763997noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5552596736019017938.post-45186626512578194892011-06-23T16:05:00.000-03:002011-06-23T16:05:45.429-03:00Every BreatheSo the other day I was looking at my blogger stuff and realized not only was my last post my Happy Blogging Anniversary, it was also my 50th! So Yippee for that!

This month has been crazy between me living on my own for the first time in my life to no internet for 9 days, its been an adventure to say the least. But in between all the craziness, I got to finally do a project I've had on the back burner for about 8 months.

My favourite movie is Casablanca. I just love it and wish I had a man like Rick lol. Or hell, even was Ilsa. Well last summer, I was given a gift that someone found for me in Amsterdam. It's an old Casablanca movie poster. It was to advertise for the movie. I love it! Well I decided I wanted to bead it. So I found the image on Google and tweaked the image to finally get it the way I wanted it.

Here are some progress shots:

Now ironing it was no treat. Every time I use Nabbi, Hama and Perler beads, I have to rebuild sections while others are cooling. Its a race against the clock. For me, this really becomes the most frustrating part of the whole project. I surprised myself by remaining calm and just doing what I could. I worked so hard on the project that I wanted to see it through. Over 2 hours of ironing, I was finally done. There are a few parts that didn't work out too well but I have to say, it turned out amazing.

If you haven't seen this movie, its a must see. There is a reason it's a classic.
Have a great summer everyone!!

If you want to hear the song from the title: Go hereJenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13668283740463763997noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5552596736019017938.post-60402378109860375202011-06-05T10:27:00.000-03:002011-06-05T10:27:03.682-03:00Happy Birthday Blog!On May 30th, it was be my blog's first birthday.
It's been a great year for me with blogging and just joining the blogging community. I have been reading some really great and inspiring blogs.
Now for my own blog, I realize I had my own wishlist for it.
I wanted to share the exciting world of beading and all the really cool things you can do with it. All the funky gaming stuff has been really fun to do. It brings me back to the young childhood days where I would sit around playing Super Mario World or Turtles in Time for hours at a time. I just loved the gaming world.
Now to me what is most fun about beading is doing the pictures of people or a photo of something. It gives it that really cool look and makes a neat piece of art to have up.

Now over the past few weeks, I haven't done that much stuff but I do have some cool pieces I want to share as well as two videos of my beading.

I was looking at different Mario 3 map screens and when I saw the Warp zone one, this popped into my head. The original says "Welcome to Warp Zone". Now in my head, Welcome to the Warp Zone sounded funny to me. I have no idea whether or not that even remotely translates to be funny to anyone else. My weird sense of humour, I guess.

Now this pattern was given to me by vudumonkey from Pixelgasm. Totally love this piece. I plan on mounting it at some point whenever I get the money to do so.

Now I was having a totally geeky moment on Friday and painted some of my nails.
Here is the end result:

I love all Mario games and the green mushroom was always my favourite. So why not have mushroom nails :).

Now over the past few weeks, it's come up in a few places on how exactly I bead. So I figured what better place to share how I do it then my very own blog.

Now I do tend to ramble so ignore that part lol.

I hope everyone has enjoyed the first year of blogging with me and there will be much more to come. Thank you so much for all your comments. I love hearing from new people!Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13668283740463763997noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5552596736019017938.post-43515071191115303982011-05-22T12:33:00.000-03:002011-05-22T12:33:41.147-03:00Best piece I've ever seen!Over at Pixelgasm, there is a guy named EddThemac and he created one of the best visually inspired pieces that I've seen in a long time.

I just love the 3D effect of it and just the style in general. I don't know much about Mega man so sadly I don't really understand the piece. To me, that doesn't matter. He did a whole new style of 3D that I have never seen before.

Here are some process shots so you get the idea of how he put it together.

I hope you love this piece as much as I do.
There will be another post coming up in a day or so, involving a video of your truly, making a Mario Mushroom so you guys can see just how I make my creations.Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13668283740463763997noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5552596736019017938.post-76352473801192214892011-04-12T21:59:00.001-03:002011-04-12T22:02:40.384-03:00California DorksI couldn't think of a good title so I decided to use the title of a song that I have been loving lately California Dorks

I get so excited when I put in a bead order. I check the mail everyday(something I never do otherwise). Usually they arrive in about a week. The slip that tells me I have beads awaiting me at the post office gets me all hyped off. I can't wait until I get off work to go get them. Pure excitement is all I can call it.

This time was no exception. Awaiting me in the glorious box was 80 thousand worth of beads. New colours from the Nabbi set as well as pretty much every colour from Perler. I wanted to be able to go for a long time without worrying about a colour I needed.

I wanted to share with all of you what it all looked like.
I even had to take two photos just to show you exactly how much came in the mail.

This is the set of Nabbi beads, there are more under it.

These are all of the Perler ones I got.

I must say, the woman I get them from is a packaging genius. That box in the Nabbi set pictures heads 80k worth of beads all in their little bags. I wish I could pack like she could.

I am happy to say that I seem to be out of my beading funk. Despite Pixelgasm still being down, I have managed to find some projects that were fun to do.

There was a reason for this one which has a funny story to it. My boyfriend has a lot of DJ equipment and loves to make songs using Fruity Loops. There is a constant flow of weird beats going through the apartment. He always says that he wants his DJ name to be Papa Large. My big joke was that he was really Papa Smurf. So I made him this.

This week has been a big adventure for me. I am currently working as a preschool teacher. So as a fun thing to put up in the room is a castle I made as we call our room Enchanted Castle. I love this one! It turned out amazing. The ironing was a pain. I have to figure out the best way to work my iron. Next project, I am going to take out all the water.

I love Kirby. Something about a weird cute pink ball that sucks things up. It's such an odd thing if you think about. Yet everyone loves him because he's cute. I guess it proves you could make the weirdest character for a game, as long as it was cute people would love it.(Same with Jigglypuff)

In another post I talked about how I was planning to build a water scene in my bathroom. I am happy to say some of it is currently hanging on the wall and coming along very nicely.

This weekend, I shall relax after my busy week(family parties and work) and plan to do more projects. Until next time!!Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13668283740463763997noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5552596736019017938.post-61656983275478143712011-04-01T20:56:00.000-03:002011-04-01T20:56:29.722-03:00I'm officially a dork! Now, I have mentioned in many posts Pixelgasm, an online forum dedicated to pixel art(Beading,painting,cross-stitch,etc). I just love this place and the people. It's a nice community where we are all willing to help each other. From looking for patterns, to questions and techniques. Anything and everything.
Now Monday I was gone out all day and didn't get to log on. Tuesday after work I tried to get on. Google had other plans. There was some malware that attacked my beloved home. It was driving me nuts. I wanted to go on and check out all the art I had missed the day before. The creator of the forum worked hard for 2 days trying to restore it. Thankfully last night it was back online.
For two days I was constantly clicking the tab I have on Firefox and then realizing it wasn't going to load. Three days without it and I felt very sad. I was bored out of my tree. Not even wanting to bead.
When it came back online, I wanted to jump around like a fool. I was excited. Other members I was chatting to were joining in on the happiness. We were all so glad to see it back up. I am such a dork for being that excited over an online forum.

So this post is to Doc(beloved creator) and everyone at Pixelgasm. Thank you for making it a lovely home that I hate to leave.

Now I leave you with a video that has made me very dorky as well. The background is done with pixel painting.

Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13668283740463763997noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5552596736019017938.post-73751537990821509342011-03-26T18:42:00.000-03:002011-03-26T18:42:43.351-03:00Back from the dead! It's been a busy few months with workshops(for work), parties and just general life.
I swear my beading hasn't stopped or at least not entirely. I had felt a little uninspired over the last little while. Now I am getting back into it. It's one of those things I miss and when I start again, I keep thinking why did I stop?

So for your viewing pleasure, here is the things I have been working on.

Now before I show you this piece, there is a back story.
Over at Pixelgasm, there is a challenge up to do Warhol pieces or inspired by him. The four coloured panel one. Now a few nights ago, I woke up at 2am with an idea of this. Not sure where it came from exactly. It was the weirdest thing to awake from my sleep with a beading idea. All day at work, I envisioned what it would look like. So when I got home, I went straight to work. My vision turned out exactly as I had imagined.

I loved Dr.Mario as a kid. We would have tetris/Dr. Mario tournaments in our house, as there was a game for the Super Nintendo that allowed you to do that. It was so much fun growing up. Yelling at the Tv and trying to make combos just to mess the other person up. So this game holds a special place in my heart.

Now I posted the work in process a month ago and I realized that I never showed the final project

Thank you to Riot Patch for giving me the pattern and permission to copy it. It was a fun project to do and I learned a lot about using cross stitching programs to create beaded art. There is always something new to use to further this crazy passion.

My family has now come to expect bead art for presents now. It's something personal for them and I love creating it. For a while now my mom has been asking me to make more lemmings for her wall at her house. She asked for ground for them to walk on.

Now what's really funny is, the set she got a long time ago had black outlines to them while I forgot about it for these little guys. She now says a war is going to happen and the ones she has now are plotting for the arrival.
So basically my mom is going to have a war with beaded lemmings that she can move on her own. I may have to ask her to take pictures of the war for this blog(if anyone wants to see it lol)

Now last year I posted a picture of a Mario Scene I had in my bathroom. When I moved, I didn't put it back up(as I keep forgetting to buy tacks). Yet again no tacks but I am completely re-doing the whole scene.
Now the scene is going to be in two parts. The water will go around the middle of the wall. There will be Mario Fish underneath and Flying Mario enemies above it. It's going to be a time consuming project but I am loving it so far.

I hope you all love these pieces.
I hate these beading blocks. It drives me nuts that I have nothing to do.
So without further ado:

I plan on making these into frisge magnets. They didn't take me that long to make either.
The images are from Bistro Recipe from the Gameboy. I found them through random online searches.

In the Inspiration post I talked about a bookmark that I found online. I started working on it yesterday and so far it's been fun. The hardest part was figuring out what the colours of thread were in regards to beads. Lots of google searches and comparing later, I had it all written out.
That part took about an hour and a half. I don't have too much to do luckily.

So this week KoolStuffForKids is having a sale on 6k of black and white beads. 50% off! I ordered 12000 of each. I am very excited to get them as I am running low on white.
Be sure to pick some up if you need them. White and Black are essentials.

Hope everyone is having a good winter's day. It's freezing here but it was sunny which I like.Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13668283740463763997noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5552596736019017938.post-69319225822162601452011-02-01T18:30:00.000-04:002011-02-01T18:30:02.706-04:00InspirationThat word seems to be my best and least favourite word lately. Trying to find projects that I want to do.
Every time I find something, I realize that I need more beads to do it lol.
So hoping in the next coming weeks to put in a huge order and get on the move.

That being said, I have found some really amazing pieces lately that I want to share.

I seen this piece a few weeks ago by an artist on Pixelgasm by Gallio. He has done some really amazing stuff and this piece amazes me. I will be doing my own by with red instead of green(once I get clear beads)

PS. He also made this!

Also in the past week I have come across some cross stitching blogs. They are pretty cool. There are so many different mediums to do gaming sprites with.

This piece from A Riot Patch of Pixels
has become my favourite cross stitch piece. She was even nice enough to send me the pattern for it so I plan on making it with beads soon :)

Also, welcome to the new followers that the blog has received in the past month. I am very excited to see new people here and hope that you all love the art.Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13668283740463763997noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5552596736019017938.post-38831787023017217222011-01-18T19:28:00.000-04:002011-01-18T19:28:16.573-04:00Before I knew it...We passed January 15th and I didn't post all the new stuff I have made.

This is my favourite football team! The St. Louis Rams. I wanted to make it with Superbowl coming up. I got the amazing pattern here
She made a bunch of football teams so I still have to make my dad's.
This one was a real pain to do. It was my first experience with KG-Chart for Cross Stitching. The layout was hard to do as it didn't break down the pattern into 29x29 sections for pegboards like I am used to.

This is some pixelated versions of Casablanca characters that I got from Iotacons
I asked him if he was okay with me making the patterns and he was nice enough to mention my stuff on his site :)

This is a birthday of my sister that I gave to my dad for Christmas. I figured since he had a picture of me as a baby that he needed one of my sister.

These are the things I have done over the last little while. Not too much work. Still looking for new things to make all the time.
Welcome to 2011!Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13668283740463763997noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5552596736019017938.post-24233469486915766562011-01-08T09:54:00.001-04:002011-01-08T13:39:44.421-04:00Happy Birthday NanaToday is Elvis Presley's birthday, which is always how I remember it's my grandmother. Every year on tv, the news would talk about his birthday so we would remember to call her because they shared their birthday.
This year I want to do a special post dedicated to her. A year and a half ago, she lost her battle with lung cancer. I miss her a lot.

When I was in elementary school, we had to write a paper about who our hero was. Most kids chose sport people, musicians and things like that. I chose my grandmother. She was a very special woman. I can't remember a time where she wasn't in a wheelchair. I can't remember a time she wasn't smiling. My grandmother had some major problems in her life that required surgeries and a lot of immobility, even in her hands. That never stopped her. She was always smiling and laughing when we were there. Joking around like every other person. She always had visitors at the house and she loved them all. Her loved to play cards. It was something my grandparents and parents did every time she was there. She even had a wooden block designed for her to put her cards in.
So for my mom's christmas present this year, I made her a very special piece. It is a picture of my grandmother at an Air show. My grandmother had a great day there and my mom just loves that picture.

Now here is what I made for my mom.

My mom opened it Christmas eve and cried. She loves it. It now hangs above the tv.

I wanted this post to be special because my grandmother was a very special woman and I love her very much.
Happy Birthday Nana. Rest in Peace and have some fun today
Love JenJenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13668283740463763997noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5552596736019017938.post-54526551673492672592010-12-20T16:00:00.001-04:002010-12-20T16:00:50.454-04:00Christmas MoviesSo over the weekend, I got to partake in my first podcast. Merry Christmas! I will be gone until the new year. I have a few posts planned after Christmas. Can't wait!Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13668283740463763997noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5552596736019017938.post-69996125924403750862010-12-11T09:35:00.000-04:002010-12-11T09:35:12.256-04:00The Christmas season is here!I have been working on projects over the last few weeks, but seeing as they are all gifts and those people look at my blog(*coughmomcough*) I will have to wait to show off stuff until after Christmas.

Now, I feel like talking about Christmas. Where I live, it's been raining a lot the last few weeks, plus it hasn't been that cold. So it just hasn't felt like Christmas. I mean I didn't even smell fall until November lol. So yesterday, as I walked to work, there was a few flakes on the ground I was excited. Now I want to get into the Christmas spirit.

I went to my staff Christmas party last night. It was a dinner theatre that put on a Christmas play. It was great. Tomorrow is my cookie party. I have a 2 foot tree up with presents underneath it. It really is beginning to look and feel like Christmas.
One of my own traditions that I started was to wrap presents while watching Muppet Christmas Carol. I don't know why I started it but I did. Now I do it every year.

I got this little Survey from Losing the Baby Weight. So here goes!

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? I usually will wrap gifts. There are a few times I will use a gift bag, like for Secret Santa at work.
2. Real tree or Artificial? I have a artificial tree now because my apartment is too small. My mom is allergic to real ones so we switched to fake ones quite a long time ago.
3. When do you put up the tree? It all depends really. I will just get this urge to put up the tree. Now Mom puts hers up early and when we are all home, we decorate.
4.When do you take the tree down? Whenever I get a spare moment.
5.Do you like eggnog? I love it! Dad and I go nuts for it.
6. Favorite gift received as a child? I would say my doll house. We had that thing forever
7. Hardest person to buy for? My dad. I never know what to get him. His birthday and Christmas are only a month apart, so I have two gifts to think about.
8. Easiest person to buy for? Mom. She loves anything I get her. I usually have a gift all planned out for her.
9. Do you have a nativity scene? Now that I have never had. Not sure why
10. Mail or email Christmas cards? The only people I get cards for are co-workers and the kids at the daycare. I hand deliver all of them :)
11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? I don't think there was a gift I didn't like. I am fairly easy to buy for. I will take anything lol.
12. Favorite Christmas Movie(s)? Nestor the Christmas Donkey, Muppet Christmas Carol. I watch them every year, multiple times.
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? It varies year by year. It all depends on my money really. Some years I start early because I have ideas like crazy. I always get my mom a gift at the Christmas Craft Fair in October.
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Never! I hate the idea of re-gifting. I would end up giving a gift to the person who gave it to me, knowing my luck
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Dad's Turkey, hands down. I crave it for weeks. He never disappoints :)
16. Lights on the tree (colored or clear)? I like coloured lights. My family tree and my own tree are covered in ornaments that are special. So I love the look the coloured lights give.
17. Favorite Christmas song? It's called Masters in the Hall by Harry Simeone Chorale. I can't explain why I love it, I just do.
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? To go home, I do have to fly. But I don't mind at all. I love seeing my parents and sister every year.
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer's? Yuppers!
20. Angel, star or ribbon on top of tree? I prefer a star but I know we've had both.
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Christmas Morning. My dad has us up super early. He's like a little kid. He's more excited than we are.
22. Favorite children's Christmas song? Rudolph. What kid doesn't like it.
23. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? People just being all about what gifts they get from others.
24. Favorite ornament theme or color? My theme is sort of a handmade ornaments or whatever someone bought for me. My family's is almost all ornaments we have had since we were kids.
25. Turkey or ham on Christmas day? Turkey! Not eating Dad's turkey is a crime, lol. I love it that much
26. What do you want for Christmas this year? I think the thing I want the most is a label maker. I need some stuff labeled. Plus a fun gadget is a plus.
27. Does anyone in your family dress up as Santa? Never. We would just go see Santa as kids.
28. Age you discovered who Santa was? I don't really remember. I had to keep quiet about it because I have a younger sister. Now my mom tells us that she is Santa so we still have to believe in her lol.
29. Eggnog, hot chocolate, or apple cider? Hot Chocolate and eggnog.
30. Traditional colors (red and green) or other colors? I love red and green stuff. It always looks so pretty. In fact my braces are red and green right now :)
31. Do you have any Christmas decorations on your roof? I live in an apartment so sadly no.
32. How does Santa get into your house? Chimney or magic key? Magic key. I got my mom one a few years ago. It hangs on the tree.
33. Do you prefer gifts or gift cards? For both giving and recieving, I love gifts. I like the idea that someone put the thought of me into finding a gift for me. I find gift cards are just blah. I only give coffee shop ones if I give them at all. Something that they will use that you can't buy yourself.

I hope you all enjoyed learning more about thoughts on Christmas
Have a great holiday!!Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13668283740463763997noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5552596736019017938.post-43930776877029920292010-12-04T07:25:00.000-04:002010-12-04T07:25:54.813-04:00Movie podcastsWhen I do my beading, I really don't like to listen to music. I have found some movie podcasts that have really kept me entertained. It's nice to hear people talking while I focus on my work.

These ladies are so funny. I have listened to all their podcasts over and over. In fact in 15 and 16, they refer to me. Both my beading and just my general obsession with them. I am hoping to do a Christmas episode with them. Just trying to work out dates and stuff :)

I was told by the Cin-ob ladies to give these guys a listen. I just finished all their podcasts about a week ago and really love them. Their top 5 list made me laugh quite a few times and they talked about so many movies I had just never seen.

After having a brief conversation with the boys from Listcast, I was turned onto these guys. I just started listening to them when working on my last piece. They are so freakin' funny. Come the end of some podcasts, you can tell they have had too much to drink. It really just sounds like a room full of guys rambling on about movies. Worth a listen.

All these guys and gals are great and I wanted to pass on their awesomeness. So check them out.
Working slowly on Christmas pieces. Finished one last night, now I just have to iron it. I promise after Christmas, there will be some posts about all the gifts.
Happy Holidays!!Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13668283740463763997noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5552596736019017938.post-20011875281737677692010-11-27T19:20:00.000-04:002010-11-27T19:20:53.557-04:00Happy Holidays!November and December are all very busy months for people, my included. I have been working on commissioned pieces as well as a few for myself.
I am getting ready for the holidays. It's coming up so fast, that I am not sure I will even get everything done in time. Every weekend up until I go away for Christmas something is going on.
I do plan on posting more about those activities as they happen.
I am looking forward to going home for Christmas. I love being with my parents and sister. They are amazing and I love them dearly. I have got some great pieces I am making them all for their gifts. I did get my sister something really cool, but I won't post about that until after the holidays once she receives it. I would hate to ruin the surprise.
The other thing about the holidays that I look forward to is my cookie party. When I was a kid, my godmother would have a party when she made dozens of cookies and all the kids gathered to decorate them. At first there was only 4 of us, but now that she has kids of her own, it's really grown. Sadly the past few years she has lived too far away for me to attend. So last year I hosted my own party, with her sacred recipe and everything. It was a blast. I am having it again in a few weeks and I can't wait. My favourite part has got to be watching Nestor the Long eared Christmas Donkey. It was a Rankin Bass movie that no one knows.

Here are some of the pieces I have been working on, as well as a video of the movie.
I am scared. It's going to be around 35 to 40 thousand beads. I am scared lol.
But lots of fun projects to be done. I really need to get my butt in gear because I only have a month to do it all O.o....

I am going to finish a commission this weekend so more money :)

Today is Remembrance Day in Canada. Just wanted to thank my family who are military for everything that you do. I love you all(especially my dad).

OH.... Tomorrow is my Dad's birthday so HAPPY BIRTHDAY! He loved that baby picture of me. It was his birthday present!Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13668283740463763997noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5552596736019017938.post-12959955727593136372010-11-08T18:40:00.002-04:002010-11-08T18:40:48.795-04:00Five Little Ducks Went Out to PlayOver the hills and far away, Mama Duck said "Quack, Quack, Quack, Quack" but only 4 little ducks came back.

I love this little song for kids. I really do. I like doing a deep quack sound for the Mama duck. It's just a great little kids song to teach them numbers.

A few months ago, I made some flannel board pieces for songs out of my bead collection. I made myself 5 frogs, a monkey, spider, sun, raindrop, star and the earth. Usually when I do a circle at work*, I use one of these pieces to involve my children with. They love them. They get upset and fight to rub them. They seem to really enjoy the feel of the beads under their hands.

So this weekend, I really started looking for patterns to make a bunch of songs for them. I want to show you the ones I have done.

Five Little Ducks went out to play, over the hills and far away. Mama Duck said "Quack,Quack,Quack,Quack" and only 4 little ducks came back...
Five busy bees on a day so sunny
Number one said"I like to make some honey"
Number two said" Tell me where shall it be
Number three said" In the old honey tree
Number 4 said" Lets gather some pollen sweet
Number 5 said" lets take it on our feet"
Humming their little busy bee song

I used these for Old Macdonald.

I used them today at work and the kids went nuts for them. Some of them they knew instantly what they were. The chicken and dog they weren't sure. So I may end up doing another pattern. I want them to be recongizable to toddlers. Overall they were a hit!

Today is the day where it's okay to eat so much candy to make us sick. I somehow don't even have any candy to eat :(

I have made a few things for Halloween this year. My costume was even bits of Perler beads.Sadly I don't have a picture of me in my costume so you will just have to see the pieces.

Both the headband and necklace glow in the dark.

On Saturday I went to a science fiction convention called Hal-Con. It was a great time. I even wore that headband and got a few comments on it. My friend was telling everyone I made it lol.

I hope everyone has a great Halloween. Now enjoy my favourite Halloween song! I even watched this movie last night.
I'm CraftyMummy. Thanks for inviting me, Jen!

I "met" Jen through the SITS community

and was so impressed with her Perler bead art.

It reminded me a little of the cross stitch I do

so I thought I'd share some basics with you.

Cross stitch is easy. Yes, really!

It's just a whole bunch of little crosses.

But it can look really detailed once you get

a lot of different colours in your design.

That's what gives you the shading.

These sea creatures are stitched on dark blue Aida cloth.

Aida cloth has a nice even weave that creates little squares

which makes it easy to stitch your crosses on.

You can get Aida cloth in different "counts"

which is how many threads per inch.

The lower the count number, the bigger the little squares.

So if you're new to stitching go for a lower count like 14

- it'll be a little easier to see your squares!

The charts I use for cross stitch are grids

like the charts Jen uses for her Perler beads.

So you could take a Perler bead chart,

grab some embroidery thread, needle and Aida cloth

and stitch a cross stitch to match your beads!

I hope I've given you some inspiration.

If you want to see the whole pictures that these sample pictures came from

you'll find them over on my blog, Mummy Crafts:

The sea scape

The teddy bears

The peacocks
